Stephanie S asked:

When I make certain dishes I top them with Ortega diced green chiles. But I am wondering what type of chile is it? My latino friends cook frequently with different types of chiles (serrano, poblano,etc.). But all my life me my family just buy Ortega green chiles. Am I showing my whiteness? LOL. Anyone out there know the answer? Thank you!!
Actually, I should have said that I am showing my lack of cooking knowledge ; ) Being white has nothing to do with it, lol. I just am still learning to cook — sad but true …

I heard that is does not come from the seeds. The seeds are spicy cause when you cut the chiles the oils are released on to them. But where does the heat come from the membrane or the chile itself?
